The Horizon

The Horizon
Inspired by the oceans of Maldives

Beyond you,
is blue sky.
Once known as a waterfall (1)
Right at that thin line.

For the unknowns beyond you,
we imagined.
'Til science taught us
to see without emotions.

To see ourselves,
as a whole,
not as a fleeting,
lonely, individual.

Among the many apes
we eventually grow
to walk on two legs, (2)
with hands that could throw.

Then with bows and arrows
territories were further defined. (3)
To this day we fight,
for those imaginary thin lines.

For those lines on paper
we pour our life's savings -
sometimes more -
So we feel we own something.

To own something we made up
still gives us satisfaction,
more than we care
for the future generations.

Beyond you,
is a future unknown
that we must imagine
with science as an undertone,
ethics as the foundation,
and love,
Love as the encompassing emotion.

(1) various versions of Flat-Earth beliefs described the edge of earth in different ways, among them a waterfall that falls into infinite space.

(2) Homo Sapiens (humans) are the only primates who are normally biped still alive today, having dominated/exterminated others through the use of tools in prehistoric times.

(3) Archery made fortification significantly more effective, and solidified territorialism.
